What does PPI actually mean?
PPI or pixels per inch is precisely that. It's a measurement of how many individual pixels there are in an inch of a screen. The more pixels, the higher the level of detail.

How To Convert Pixels to Inches
Here are a few common sizes used for printing converted from inch to pixel dimensions

Pixels and inches are both units of measurement, but they’re used on different mediums. Websites and other digital mediums measure dimensions in pixels, so if you are designing for a digital platform, the dimensions of your design will need to be in pixels. On the other hand, if you want to design something that will be printed and used in the physical world, you’ll need to know what the dimensions of your design are in inches.

To convert pixels to inches we simply take each dimension of the artboard and divide it by the DPI (dots per inch) or the PPI (pixels per inch). So if we have an artboard that's 3600px x 4800px at 200 PPI the inch equivalent is 18" x 24".

Designers often have the need to convert their images from pixels to inches, especially when it comes to printing and converting their digital work into physical work. Converting pixels to inches also allows you to see how your design would look on various screen sizes. If you will be giving a presentation on 13-inch MacBook Pro screen, it would be helpful to know that your design will fit proportionately inside of the 12.78 x 8.94 screen. By inputting the pixel height and width of your image, our calculator will convert those dimensions into inches. With your dimensions in inches, you can have many practical uses for your design.

On the contrary, if you want to convert a physical file to a digital file, you will need to convert the inches to pixels. If you'd like to convert the reverse way you can use the reverse converter here.
